Sean Payton was born on the 29th December 1963, in San Mateo, California USA, of Irish ancestry. He is a former professional American Football player, the quarterback and now the football coach of the New Orleans Saints team which plays in the NFL. He played football professionally only in 1987 and 1988, and has been working as a coach since then. Sean Payton was inducted into the Eastern Illinois Hall of Fame in 2000 and was rewarded as AP Coach of the Year in 2006.

After the 2002 season he moved to the Dallas Cowboys as an assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach, then in 2006 Payton was appointed to the New Orleans Saints as a head coach, ending his season by winning the NFC South Division with a record of 10 wins and 6 losses. In 2009, his team won the first 13 consecutive games before losing the last three, so won the NFC South Division again, and then defeating the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings (in extra time) before triumphing over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
